2020 will be a year that most will want to forget with the global pandemic of Covid-19 grinding the world to a near standstill. Manufacturing, along with keyworkers can be proud of their achievement during tough times. In times of need many subcontract manufacturing companies came together to produce some fantastic equipment and PPE related products. This provided frontline workers with the necessary tools to help save lives. I think we all can agree that we are indebted to all the NHS staff who have performed remarkably under such challenging conditions.

It has been great to see how many subcontract manufacturers have adapted to the times. Many have had to switch to producing components/products for different sectors. From our own perspective, M&M Turned Parts certainly faced initial challenges. During the month of April we were faced with many of our customers temporarily closing. This resulted in us having a lot of free machining capacity which we were able to utilise for manufacturing medical components. Luckily, we were already involved in producing components of this nature which stood us in good stead. On a personal level it was great to be part of a project that has helped to save lives across the world.

Steady uptrend for manufacturing…

From June onwards we witnessed a steady upturn with most businesses returning to some sort of normality. Generally, this has continued up until this point. A normal drop off of work load is expected leading up to the festive period. We look forward to 2021 with optimism in regards to returning to normality. I don’t think anyone will forget 2020 anytime soon as it will remain long in the memory. It has been a real experience to have lived through to say the least.
